Solidification Along an Eutectic Path in Ternary Alloys (SETA)

The objective of this research programme is to elaborate a tool for predicting the microstructure features of a solidifying ternary alloy. The project focuses on the eutectic growth of ternary alloys during unconstrained solidification, in particular the microstructural evolution along the entire solidification path. it has been proposed to perfrom a sounding-rocket experiment on hypoeutectic alloys under isothermal freezing conditions, so that eutectic growth without convection and sedimentation can be analysed.
